Installing Swype on the HTC EVO 4G

Swype uses patented technology that allows for much faster text input on touch screen devices. Many users tout personal speeds of more than 40 words per minute and that’s pretty fast for a touch keyboard. Personally, I can’t say how much more easier it is typing on my EVO with swype installed. If you don’t already use Swype, you can download the Swype installer by browsing to this link from your EVO phone after signing up an account or just browse to this link and download the new EVO beta file from our site SWYPE BETA.

Here’s a pictorial how-to for installing swype caught from my HTC EVO. Before installing the swype download, go to settings, then applications and make sure unknown sources is checked. The pictures explain the rest.

Continue with the following pics after your phone reboots. Remember to tick swype so it’s visible when entering text.

Go to any text input area, like messages, then hold your finger down (long press) on the text area and you will see a popup that says input method, select swype and your all done. For text areas that don’t popup, go to messages, and then compose message instead.

If you installed the Froyo update to your EVO and Swype stopped working, you might have to reinstall to get it working again. Remove the old swype, download a new installer and follow same steps above.
