NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 vs AMD Radeon HD 6870 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 vs NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Introduction

If you thought NVIDIA was done for the year that the GeForce GTX 580 began a month ago, it would be wrong. In a surprise move NVIDIA launches NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 tells us that there will be immediately available.

As its name suggests, the GeForce GTX 570 is contracted on the right behind the GeForce GTX 580 in price and performance. The GeForce GTX 570 is the successor to the GeForce GTX 470. The new GeForce GTX 570 will be priced at an MSRP of $ 349. This is an excellent target price, and if you remember the GeForce GTX 470 launch, which was also launched with an MSRP of $ 349. With the current price drops are the GeForce GTX 470 video cards now for just $ 254.99.

GeForce GTX 570


The GeForce GTX 570 is based on the same GPU found in the GeForce GTX 580. If you look back on our evaluationof the GTX 580 is referred to several transistor-level improvements that were made to the GTX 580. Every bit of those improvements to the transistor level to provide a performance advantage of the clock-to-native clock are present in the new GeForce GTX 570.

The GPU cool mist chamber introduced in the GeForce GTX 580 also is being used in the GeForce GTX 570. The steam chamber and fan enhancements provide less intrusive sound profile, which has been a great advantage for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580.

NVIDIA has equipped the GeForce GTX 480 Core 570 with CUDA. The GeForce GTX 480 also has 480 CUDA cores. The new GeForce GTX 580 has CUDA 512 cores, while the GeForce GTX 470 has 448 cores CUDA. We can see that the new GTX 570 GTX 480 matches, at least in terms of shader processing power.

The main stock GTX 570 clock speed is 732MHz, with CUDA cores running at 1464MHz. This compares to the GTX 470 running at 607MHz core and 1215MHz core CUDA and the GTX 480 running at 700MHz core and 1401MHz core CUDA. The GTX 570 clock speeds are impressive compared to the GTX 470 and GTX 480. The GeForce GTX 580 runs at 772MHz core and 1544MHz core CUDA for comparison.

The memory consists of 1,280 MB of GDDR5 memory on a 320-bit bus. The memory frequency is 3.8GHz, providing 152GB/sec of bandwidth. This compares with 133GB/sec of bandwidth on the GTX 470, 177GB/sec of bandwidth on the GTX 480 and 192GB/sec of bandwidth on the GTX 580.

Apart from the memory bandwidth of the GTX 570 should have a faster shader performance than the GeForce GTX 480! We are very pleased to see how it compares. The maximum is calculated at 219 watts, and the recommended power supply is 550 watts.

The GeForce GTX 570 looks identical to the GeForce GTX 580. Is exactly the same length as the GTX 580 in 10.5 inches long. It uses the same steam chamber and the sink deck. The only way to know the two separate video cards is to look at the power connectors. The GTX 580 uses an 8 pin and one 6-pin, while the GeForce GTX 570 uses two 6-pin connectors. The same screen connections are compatible with the GTX 570, dual-link DVI and HDMI. SLI is fully compatible with two connectors on the top of the video card. All the exhaust ports are identical between the GTX 570 and GTX 580.

Assessment Method

Evaluate what each configuration of the video card can offer in terms of a playable game experience, while providing the best completion of the resolution and “Eye Candy” graphics settings. We focus on quality and immersion of the game experience more than the number of frames per second, the card can be a benchmark canned or pre-recorded timedemo situation that often do not represent actual gameplay as you would experience in the country. Then continue with the apples to apples test with minimum, maximum and average frame rate.

Test System Configuration

We will be using a motherboard MSI X58 Eclipse SLI, an Intel Core i7 920 overclocking 3.6 GHz and 6 GB of Corsair Dominator DDR3 TR3X6G1600C8D.

While it might be “a stretch”, use the Core i7-920 3.6 GHz in an attempt to prevent our evaluation of the CPU is limited. Obviously, we do everything possible not to use the CPU games limited to assessments of the video card, but the i7-920 3.6 GHz seems to many people’s minds at ease when it comes to that topic.

 

To get the new video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 has given us ForceWare beta 263.09. The new ForceWare drivers for the GTX 500 series are not unified, and cards will not work with GTX 400 series video. Therefore, for the GeForce GTX 470 and GeForce GTX 480 we’re using ForceWare 260.99 WHQL is the latest driver.

For the AMD Radeon HD 6870 we are using the best driver recommended by AMD, which is 10.10e catalyst driver revision 10.11 is not WHQL Catalyst. The catalyst 10. 10e driver hotfix contains fixes and improvements that do not the driver of 10.11 WHQL, therefore, is actually newer than 10.11 WHQL.

Performance Summary

True gaming performance was remarkable with the GeForce GTX 570. In each game we have experienced superior performance compared to AMD’s new Radeon HD 6870. They also experienced much better performance on the aging of the GeForce GTX 470. The GeForce GTX 470 struggled a bit at 2560×1600 in many games where the GeForce GTX 570 pushed right through that resolution without problems.

In general, the GeForce GTX 570 was 26% faster than the GeForce GTX 470 in our gaming tests. This is a respectable performance increase for the same price as the GTX debuted at 470. The advantages of the real world are playing there too, allowing us to play at higher resolutions and higher AA settings. The GeForce GTX 570 is also 20% faster than the Radeon HD 6870 in our gaming tests.

By looking at the GeForce GTX 480 in comparison found that the new GeForce GTX 570 in general can match its performance. There are some cases where performance was a few percent faster or slower, but in terms of play in the real world this can not be equated with the advantages of real-world game. The GeForce GTX 570 has less memory bandwidth of the GeForce GTX 480, but that does not seem to oppose it in any way in our game tests. We were able to run high settings with high resolution and lots of AA by the large memory capacity. By looking at the GeForce GTX 580 we find the GeForce GTX 570 is somewhere between 10-25% slower frame rate-wise depending on the game.

Baseline

The GeForce GTX 570 is impressive to say the least. Our tests have shown that the GTX 570 is similar in performance to the GeForce GTX 480. In this regard, one could say that the GTX 480 GTX 570 is the replacement, so that performance at a lower price along with other improvements. When the GeForce GTX 480 was launched nine months ago that debuted at $ 500. With the new GeForce GTX 570 you are getting the same performance profile for $ 350 by comparison. In addition to this level of performance for the price, you’ll find a refrigerator and quieter operation thanks to the video card transistor-level improvements and superior cooling solution that is much easier on the ears.

The GeForce GTX 570 and GeForce GTX 580 is the epitome of an update to the GPU. NVIDIA GPU took the Fermi GF100 improved internal transistor level, provided a bump in CUDA cores and clock speeds, and provided much better thermal solution. What NVIDIA has created two very compelling video cards for the season of holiday shopping. The GeForce GTX 570 and GeForce GTX 580 both now offer the best return on the market at the points of the respective price cards. There is no competition for these cards at this time. Let’s see if AMD enters the market with any GPU that change the outlook for the coming week as the 6900 series launch high-end GPU.

In that sense, it is certainly worth mentioning that we have compared the GTX 570 to the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6870 is on sale today for up to $ 120 less than the GTX 570 MSRP reported. Although we make every effort to keep assessments close GPU when it comes to costs, doing so today do not really show our readers what we think is important to know.

If you are looking for a great gaming experience we can recommend the new GeForce GTX 570 to 2560×1600 resolution. The price is right, proper operation, and is the right time to do it right here before Christmas! Now we have to see if the availability is “right” too. We are seeing many GTX 580 parts in and out of stocks and honestly not give a “warm fuzzy” about supplies 570 GTX, but that story is told between now and Christmas.

Given the improvements in power, thermal profile, performance, and all at a tempting price, we feel the GeForce GTX 570 deserves our Gold Award [H] Editor’s Choice. It will be interesting to see if we have another winner GPU next week that could make us rethink our comments today, but we can not comment on what we have not gamed with.
